5 Tips to Make the Most of Your Summer Vacation Budget

June 28, 2022 • Adulting

Nearly everyone looks forward to a relaxing summer break.  Get the most out of your trip without breaking the bank.  Here are 5 tips to help:

1. Pay up front.

If you can, pay for your hotel and other arrangements in advance. There will always be plenty of other expenses as your trip unfolds, but having paid for some of the major expenses in advance keeps your account balances from taking a big hit all at once.

2.  Spend money on the important stuff.

Spend on what is most important to you. If you’re a foodie, spend on dinners out and save on your hotel. If street hiking and photographing local landmarks and scenery is important to you spend a little extra on a hotel in a great location and save on meals out by going to a local grocery store or finding cheap street food and casual restaurants to help stretch the budget.

3. Spend a little extra on making memories.

Even though you may be suffering sticker shock from paying airfare and hotel expenses ahead of time, give yourself some room to spend a little extra to enjoy experiences you’ll remember and treasure later on. You’ll forget what the trip cost you eventually, but you’ll enjoy the memories forever. Two women sit in a pool in a tropical area. 4Track your spending.

A comprehensive travel journal can be an exceptionally useful tool for planning your next trip. By tracking how much you’re spending and what you’re spending on, you’ll be better able to plan effectively for future trips. In addition, keeping detailed travel notes can make you a hero when friends and family members are thinking about making a similar trip.

5. Pay off your vacation expenses right away.

No matter how much fun you had, you won’t be happy if you’re still paying for it months later.
