I went to the grocery store two days after Christmas and what did I see? An aisle full of Valentine decor and candy! I shouldn't be shocked by this but it still freaked me out a little. Too soon! We still had our Christmas tree up for crying out loud.
But boy do I love Valentine's Day. And not because I, as a wife, expect flowers, chocolate and jewelry. I don't expect any of that at all. In fact, the frugal part of me would rather my husband didn't buy those things around Valentine's Day when the prices are so high! I love Valentine's Day because it gives us a day to focus on love. Not just love between spouses, but love between parents and kids, friends, coworkers etc. Spreading love for people you care about is so much fun. And we can all agree this world can use some extra love right now.
Something I am going to try this year is to put little notes on the kids' doors each night starting Feb 1st through the 14th. Maybe leaving a little gift with the last note. These notes might read "I love you because..." "I am proud of you because..." "I love the way you..." I can do this with sticky notes on the bathroom mirror for my hubby too. This costs NOTHING but might mean EVERYTHING to them.
Remember, it's always the thought that counts. Not the amount of money you spend!
