Important shared branching updates

March 9, 2021 • Press

Dear Valued Member,

We want you to be the first to know that starting Wednesday, March 31st, Canopy Credit Union will no longer be part of the CO-OP Shared Branch Network.

Our goal is to ensure we’re utilizing our resources to provide maximum benefit to all of you - our amazing members. Over time, being part of the CO-OP Shared Branch network has become overwhelmingly expensive and many other local credit unions have departed from this service which decreases the number of locations our members can access this service.

After suspending shared branching during the COVID-19 pandemic as a social distancing measure, our members have become adept in utilizing other available resources to help move money between multiple credit unions. Those resources include our Canopy online banking & mobile app, the SPRIG by CO-OP website and app, and the surcharge-free CO-OP ATM Network.

We plan to reallocate the funds formerly spent on Shared Branching toward other projects that will make your membership even more convenient and enjoyable. Things such as expanding our Canopy branch network, improving our technology, and offering other rewarding products and services.

Options to replace the use of shared branching:

  • Utilize the CO-OP ATM network where you have access to over 30,000 surcharge-free ATMs worldwide.
  • Visit the SPRIG by CO-OP website Get Sprig or download the app to view your account balances, transfer money, and make mobile deposits at any participating credit union.
  • Use the Canopy “External Transfers” feature within online or mobile banking.
  • Use Canopy’s free “Pay a Friend” feature.
  • Make loan payments on any loan through your free Canopy bill pay service.
  • Utilize third-party apps like Venmo or Cash App.

As we continue to move forward without shared branching, our goal remains the same - to deliver exceptional, personal service to our members. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at 509.328.2900.

Sincerely,

Charlotte Nemec

Shared Branching FAQ

Over time, being part of the CO-OP Shared Branch network has become overwhelmingly expensive and many other local credit unions have departed from this service which decreases the number of locations our members can access this service. We plan to reallocate the funds formerly spent on Shared Branching toward other projects that will make your membership even more convenient and enjoyable. Great question! Canopy members can continue to use the SPRIG by CO-OP (Get Sprig) shared branching website & app, CO-OP ATMs branded with this logo:  and our external transfers feature within online and mobile banking to move money between their accounts at multiple credit unions. If you need help sending money to another person you can use our free “Pay a Friend” feature to send money to anyone you have an email or mobile phone number for. If you need to pay one of your loans or credit cards at another shared branch credit union, take advantage of our free bill pay feature to schedule your payments anytime you want! Our mobile deposit feature lets you easily deposit checks using your phone.

There are third party apps that allow members to easily send money to other people including Venmo (Venmo) and Cash App (Cash App).

You'll first need to enroll with SPRIG by going toGet Sprig and clicking on “enroll” OR by downloading the mobile app from the app store or Google Play store. Click on the enroll button, click “start enrollment,” accept the terms and conditions, search for “Canopy” (we show up as Canopy FCU) enter in your full account number and your name as it appears on your accounts then click "Continue". Complete the registration process and this will initiate a micro deposit process. SPRIG will make two small deposits into the account you entered, which you will then verify and do the same for accounts that you would like to move money between. They explain their process on their website at Get Sprig.

The SPRIG by CO-OP app allows you to view balances at all of your participating credit union accounts, send money to anyone’s account if their credit union is part of the shared branching network, make mobile deposits into any of the accounts you’ve linked, and transfer money between those accounts in real-time.
